The Chamber for Arts, Heritage and Culture (CAHC) launched its Stragetic Plan for 2014-16 at a presentation and reception in the House of Lords, Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin last evening (19th June). The Chamber, which was established in April 2013, is unique in that it is based on the established Chamber of Commerce movement but is dedicated to the arts, heritage and cultural sectors. The Chamber is a not-for-profit membership based organisation that represents the interests of all involved in its areas of interest. Last evening’s event briefed on the background to the Strategic Plan and its proposals by the Chamber’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Neil Keenan and Audrey McKenna respectively. The event, sponsored by the Bank of Ireland, was attended by representatives of cultural and business organisations from all over the country, by senior government officials and by members of the diplomatic corps interested in the Chamber. Commenting on the launch of the Plan, the Chamber’s Chief Executive, Audrey McKenna, said, “This evening’s event represents another important milestone in the evolution of the Chamber. Over the past 14 months, we’ve undertaken research and met with representatives of a wide range of business and cultural groups who responded positively to the concept of the Chamber. “Our Strategic Plan describes how we plan to take the Chamber to the next level. We look forward to broadening our membership base and attracting the support of commercial partners that will help us deliver the plan.” Gabriel Bannigan, Regional Manager – Dublin, Bank of Ireland said: “We are very conscious of the significant role that Arts, Heritage and Culture play and will continue to play in the recovery in our economic environment. We are pleased to sponsor this evening’s launch in the House of Lords, a historic location in the heart of the Dublin city’s business community”. [Show slideshow]...

Conclusion of ‘More from the Harp’ fest

Posted by on 3:18 pm in Pictures | 0 comments

Last night we concluded the “More from the Harp” Fest with a wonderful Gala Concert which concluded with a roaring standing ovation. The evening presented a full cross section of ensembles from the wire string harp to opera to, fresh from the manuscript, an arrangement of U2’s, Ordinary Love (complete with two concert harps, percussion, violin, keyboard, choir and soloists) This went down particularly well! The special guest line up proudly included internationally acclaimed Artists including Tríona sMarshall, Dr. Teresa O Donnell, Sylvia Crawford, Mark Redmond, Madeleine Doherty, Niamh McCormack, Sinéad McCormack, Junshi Murakami, Fiach O Briain. A number of the students from the Kingston Academy were honoured to share the stage with the stellar performers! Audrey McKenna (CEO, Chamber Arts Heritage & Culture) and Neil Keenan (Chairman, Chamber AH&C) commented that “We are delighted to have marked the 1st Anniversary of the Launch of the Chamber AH&C with what resulted in a wonderful celebration of Arts Heritage & Culture over the past few days, branching from Dalkey to Sandycove to Glasthule. This “ More from the Harp “ Chamber AH&C project was a great and tangible example of how the Traditional side of business working together with the Cultural Sector benefits all the community on every level..” The weekend began with its launch in Gerard Byrne’s Gallery, Dalkey. The Fest then sported a Free Heritage Bus (A London  1950’s routemaster) touring the coast from Glasthule to Sandycove to Dalkey, complete with heritage map of the community and a guided talk on the bus. This was greeted with many smiles and an abundance of enthusiasm! There were many clusters of harp recitals scattered across the 3 towns and the story telling by the turf fire in Biddy’s cottage went down a treat with the tourists in particular. Our next showcase event 6 months on from our inaugural forum in Dublin Castle will take place in the Bank of Ireland College Green (the old House of Lords designed by James Gandon which it has recently been announced will be a cultural and heritage centre).  This event will launch the strategic plan of the Chamber and will be yet another showcase of the wealth of arts, heritage and culture that the Chamber is supporting and advocating as a key economic sector.
